The fact sheet is generated by materials/substance legislation compliance software produced by PlesTech Ltd.,
Substance: Bismuth (Bi) - Metal
Physical Properties
Atomic / Molecular weight = 208.9
Density = 9.8 gm/cc
Melting temperature = 271oC
Boiling point = 1560oC
Specific heat = 0.0294 cal/oC at 20oC
Resistivity = 1.25 ohms-mm2 / m at 20oC
Toxicity
Contact with bismuth can cause dermatitis. It also can effect the kidneys, eyes, liver, heart and central
nervous system.
Applications
Used for a low temperature no-lead solder.
Bismuth alloys are particularly good for sharp castings of products subject to damage by high temperatures,
because it expands 3.32% on solidification. With other metals such as tin, cadmium, etc., bismuth forms
low-melting alloys which are extensively used for safety devices in fire detection and extinguishing systems.
