Directive 2002/95/EC on the Restriction of the use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS)
Key Differences from Other Member States
Key Implementation Dates
30th July 2004 WEEE and RoHS transposed by legislation 68-204
WEEE: recovery targets to be met by 31st December 2008 under Decision 2004/486/EC since no infrastructure is currently in place
Separate Collection: Producers pay for collection of WEEE from households. There is no obligation on local authorities to collect the WEEE
Compliance Schemes:None formed yet. Altough there are no electronics manufacturers in Cyprus, importers will probably have to set up a scheme as they will be classed as the producers.
Reuse:Reuse of equipment will form part of the recovery figures.
Recovery/Recycling Targets:A product tax will be charged based on the difference between target recovery rate and actual rate achieved
