EuP Page
The Energy Using Products Directive (EuP) will have a major impact on industry and for this reason this EuP page has been added to the seeba website. It will cover the developments within Europe and as it gets implemented within the individual member states it will cover this as well. The full text of the legislation can be seen on the Europa Website along with a lot of background information. Slide presentations covering the EuP can also be found in the Resource Centre
On the 21st November 2006 the Commission services held a workshop to inform stakeholders and Member States representatives on the implementation of the Ecodesign of EuPs directive. Copies of the summary presentations are as follows:
- Summary of the Workshop on implementation of the Ecodesign of EuP directive
- A framework for setting eco-design requirements for energy-using products
- Methodology for the Ecodesign of Energy-Using Products Directive (MEEuP)
- Synergies with other EU policies
- State of Play and Next Steps (Product studies)
- EuP Directive 2005/32/EC Next steps
In preparing for the EuP the EU Commission has set in motion a number of activities. They are:
- Eco-design of EuP methodology study: This has now been completed by VHK and the proposed methodology is based on a simplified life cycle annalysis where standardised data is used for each part of the life cycle. Details of the IVK study can be found on their website at http://www.vhk.nl/downloads.htm
- Mandate for programming standardisation work M 341 - EN: This work is being carried out by CENELEC to look at what standards are required to support the EuP.
- Preparatory Study Groups: A number of study groups have been set up to look at the first products to be covered by implementation measures under the EuP. These are:
- Boilers and combi-boilers (gas/oil/electric)
- Water heaters (gas/oil/electric)
- Personal Computers (desktops & laptops) and computer monitors
- Imaging equipment: copiers, faxes, printers, scanners, multifunctional devices
- Consumer electronics: televisions
- Standby and off-mode losses of EuPs
- Battery chargers and external power supplies
- Office lighting
- (Public) street lighting
- Residential room conditioning appliances (airco and ventilation)
- Electric motors 1-150 kW, water pumps (commercial buildings, drinking water, food, agriculture), circulators in buildings, ventilation fans (nonresidential)
- Commercial refrigerators and freezers, including chillers, display cabinets and vending machines
- Domestic refrigerators and freezers
- Domestic dishwashers and washing machines
During 2007 the following new preparatory study groups will be kicked off:
- Solid fuel small combustion installations
- Laundry driers
- Vacuum cleaners
- Simple Set-top boxes kicked off February 2007
- Complex Set-top boxes for pay content
- Domestic lighting
The stages followed by each of the study groups is shown below:
