hello all,

im a product design student at bournemouth university, about to commence my final year and need to have an idea for my main project. I particulary feel that i want to do a sustainable product though i am finding it hard to come up with ideas that aren't purely superflous and market/gimmick driven. if anyone has any sustainable ideas at all please let me know asap. Thanks for your help

Hi Luke

How are u going? When i found this website my main focus was also to look for ideas for my final project. I m currently studying Industrial Design at UNSW in Sydney and i need to start feeling inspired for my final project. I want to do sustainable designs as well. If u have started ur project now, wanna exchange ideas?

Luke and Karen and anyone else:
I am on the cusp of my final year of Industrial Design at Carleton University in Ottawa Canada and am also thinking about sustainable design. This is my first stop so if you have found any helpful resource sites or manuals etc I would be indebted if you might pass them along.

I am really surprised that you 'young' designers at College or University can't come up with a sustainable design idea.

I understand that there is a problem getting industry to accept a 'sustainable design' product, but at the design concept stage there are enough opportunities to look at a product and redesign it. (Or better still design a service to replace the product)

Start by thinking laterally-apply the basic eco design principles (resource, materials, production, Use phase, re-use, recycle or disposal) then pick a product which bugged you.
Good Luck with the projects.
